Trains, festivals and finding you
Four days of Leyendas del Rock, and the doors you locked behind you
Leyendas del Rock brought more than 60,000 people to Villena over four days in its twentieth edition. A few practical habits keep your keys, your car and your rented room on the right side of the door.
Every August, Villena hosts Leyendas del Rock at the municipal sports ground. Its twentieth anniversary edition closed with more than 60,000 attendances over four days; the 2026 festival ran from 5 to 8 August. For a town of under 35,000, that is a lot of extra cars, campervans, rented rooms and borrowed flats, and a lot of keys moving between pockets in the heat and the crowd.
None of this needs a locksmith if a few things are sorted before the first band.
Before you leave the car
- One person holds the car key, and everyone knows who. Most car lockouts at a festival are not lost keys; they are keys that ended up in the wrong bag, which went into the car, which locked.
- Do not leave the key in the boot while you change. Many cars lock themselves when the boot closes with the key inside, or shortly after.
- Photograph where you parked, with a street name or a landmark in the shot. Four days later, at two in the morning, every street looks the same.
- Keep your ID and the car papers on you, not in the glovebox. Whoever opens the car will ask for proof that it is yours, and those papers are what you will need.
The room, the flat, the campervan
If you are staying in a rented room or a friend’s flat, ask on day one how the street door of the building works. Some only open with the key from outside, and the friend with the second key may be at the other end of the town. A quick photo of the lock and the door number saves a long wait.
If it happens anyway
- Check every door and the boot. One is sometimes left unlocked.
- If a child or a dog is inside in the August heat, ring 112 first.
- Ring us, and send your location pin on WhatsApp along with the make, model and colour of the car. Around a festival, the pin matters more than the street name.
- Have the papers ready. If they are locked inside, we check them once the door is open.
We open the door, and that is the whole job. We do not make, cut or program car keys, so if the key is lost rather than locked in, the dealer is the next call.
Arriving by train?
Some festival-goers come on the AVE. Villena AV is about six kilometres from the town, so our guide on arriving at Villena AV with the keys still at home is worth reading too. And if you are staying out of town, directions to a house in a pedanía explains how to bring anyone to the right gate at night.
